Christian Barthomeuf is the inventor of ice cider. He is also one of the pioneers of organic farming in Quebec. A privileged witness to the imbalances caused by humans, this extraordinary farmer decided, in the 1980s, to embark on another path, that of agriculture that is not only organic, but also regenerative of soil health and more broadly , biodiversity, a way of doing things that he calls fundamental culture.

In Self-portrait of a rebel peasant , his first book, he looks back on his life journey, from his childhood in Cantal (France) to his arrival in Quebec in the 70s, including the creation of ice cider in 1989 and the founding of the Clos Saragnat estate. With great generosity and without tongue in cheek, this self-taught and rebel at heart gives us his thoughts and rants on the production of wine and cider, local and global agriculture, the excesses of the agri-food industry, the importance of agricultural and general biodiversity, and through these themes, his learning, his observations, his trials and errors, his creative impulses.

Her story is guided by the interventions of nutritionist and speaker Julie Aubé and punctuated by superb photographs by Virginie Gosselin.
